Publish Notifications

When publishing content to the Mobile Sales Tool, an admin may elect to send a push notification in order to bring attention to a newly published asset.

NOTE: Editing or replacing existing assets that have already been published to the Mobile Sales Tool will not result in any notifications.

Push notifications will be received by mobile users under the following conditions:

  • The mobile user is using v.1.14.8 of the BAM! Mobile Sales Tool app or higher.
  • The mobile user has given the app permission to receive push notifications. This permission can be granted or revoked from the OS-level settings on the device within the app settings.
  • The mobile user has view privileges for the asset being published. If a user would not be able to see a given asset, due to their own permissions or that of the folder where the asset is published, they will likewise not receive any notifications about the asset.
  • The admin user has selected the “Notify mobile device users with the following message” checkbox, as illustrated below. This checkbox is not selected by default:

Once checked, the user may customize the pending message before publishing. The default message displays the name of the asset and the folder it was published to:

The notification will be sent when the asset is approved. If the publisher uses the “Publish” button, the notification will go out when the publish action is ultimately approved.

When publishing multiple assets at once, an individual notification will be sent for each asset. In this case, the message will use a template, allowing a publisher to specify the message. The wildcard character patterns %F and %T will be replaced by the asset filename and the name of the destination folder, respectively:

Mobile App Behavior

For the mobile user, push notification behavior is slightly different based on the state of the Mobile Sales Tool app:

  • If the app is in the background and the user is logged in, tapping on a notification will bring the app into the foreground and launch the asset indicated in the notification.
  • If the app is in the background and the user is not logged in, tapping the notification will bring the app to the foreground and bring the user to the login page. As soon as the user logs in, the asset indicated in the notification will be launched.
  • If the app is in the foreground, users on iOS will see the notification, and tapping the notification will launch the asset if the user is logged in. On Android, no notification will be seen if the app is in the foreground, but the state will refresh and if the asset was not already available, the user will see the “Assets Have Been Updated” toast notification at the bottom of the screen, with an option to view the new asset(s).
  • If the app is closed, the user will see notifications. Tapping on the notification will launch the app, but will not launch the asset.
